Starting this summer, restaurants in Massachusetts will be required by law to take three important steps to help reduce the number of food allergy incidents at restaurants, according to an article in MedPage Today.
According to the law signed last year by Governor Deval Patrick, restaurants will have to display a poster in the food prep area that explains the protocol for serving a customer with a food allergy. They’ll also have to place notices on their menus that instruct customers to inform their server of any food allergies. Finally, workers will need to be trained in how to prepare food for a food-allergic customer.
The hope is that other states will follow suit and as a result, lower the number of fatalities caused by food allergies.
