A review of data from a recent study suggests that taking a low dose of aspirin daily may reduce the risk of developing asthma in certain non-obese women. These findings echo earlier data from a different study that suggested low dose aspirin reduced asthma risk in men by more than 20%.
The findings, published in a recent issue of the medical journal, Thorax, are intriguing. But since the study the data came from was not specifically designed to look at asthma, more refined studies will be needed to confirm the findings. Still, it’s exciting to think we may have a safe and easy way to prevent asthma from developing in the future, at least in certain populations.
