LONDON (Reuters) – A probiotic drink a day may helpkeep hay fever away, British researchers said on Tuesday.

A small study showed that probiotic, or “good” bacteria in adaily drink can change the immune system’s response to grasspollen, a common cause of allergies, and balance antibodies in away that may provide relief to people with the condition.

“These data show that probiotic supplements modulate immuneresponses…and may have the potential to alleviate the severity ofsymptoms,” Claudio Nicoletti and colleagues at the Institute ofFood Research in Norwich, Britain, reported in the journal Clinicaland Experimental Allergy.
