We have a discussion going in the Asthma Forum right now about the merits of a gluten-free diet as a method of controlling (or even curing?) asthma. I read the discussion with interest, because to be honest, I hadn’t heard anything about gluten intolerance and asthma prior to this. And I’ve been writing and studying about (not to mention living with!) asthma for years. By the way, gluten intolerance is generally referred to as celiac disease.

So, I tried to research the topic, and even though I am a top notch Web researcher, I could find very little scientific evidence connecting asthma and gluten intolerance. I did, however, find lots of anecdotal evidence of people recounting a complete vanishing of asthma symptoms once they went on a gluten-free diet. So, I’m asking for help.

Can you help me learn more about this issue? Can you point me to any scientific references on gluten intolerance / allergy and asthma? I’m looking for studies, journal articles or articles on well-recognized health websites like About.com or WebMD or AAAAI.com. It’s not that I don’t believe what people are saying. But I hope to write an article for the site here on this issue, and to get it published, I have to have source information from those kinds of websites.

So, please share your experiences and any such web pages, etc. that you know of at our forum, OK? Thanks!
